Together, we can contribute to reducing food waste on a large scale, starting with small, human-scale projects.
Food waste is one of the major issues in our society today. In fact, in Quebec, approximately 1.2 million tonnes of edible food end up being thrown away. Worldwide, nearly a third of all food produced ends up being thrown away, resulting in a loss of approximately 1.3 billion tonnes of food each year. This has significant environmental, economic and social implications, as food waste leads to increased greenhouse gas emissions, a waste of resources and the denial of food security for those who need it.

As sustainability becomes a central objective, freeze-drying offers a more environmentally friendly approach to food preservation. The process requires less energy compared to traditional canning or drying methods, which helps reduce carbon emissions. In addition, freeze-dried products are lighter, which reduces transportation costs and fuel consumption.

Looking ahead, freeze-drying offers enormous potential to create a future where accessible, nutritious and environmentally friendly food options are readily available to all.
